MESSAGES

How Do These Work
  1. The Powerpoint located at the bottom of the page titled The dangers of smoking, shows how fear can be used in a message by stating a scary truth about smokeing, while telling a person how they can escape that fate.
  2. The second message titled distractorrr, has a distracting background and little dolls as well as a video to watch so the viewer is distracted and forced to make a decision relying on periferal route processing.
  3. The third message, Two sided message, features two sides of an argument made about smoking we show how smoking is considered unhealthy, but mention that is causes stress, by showing that smoking causes more stress we show both sides of an argument, but sway the viewer in our favor.

Two Sided Message

*Smoking isn't healthy

But some people say it helps with stress

You'll have even more to stress about when you have health problems from Smoking*

CELEBRITIES THINK YOU"RE NOT COOL!

Even miss Jessica Simpson is stepping out against smoking!
She may not know what tuna fish is, maybe not even chicken, but she knows what will destroy her voice and the pretty face that keeps her in the money and the limelight!

Explanation of Persuasion

Compairing the messages and forms of persuasion in this Blog:
  1. The two messages show you the negative things that can happen to a person's face and to the man's favorite organ: this compairs wrinkles and erectile disfunction, two very negative things in modern society, with the smoking of cigarettes, thus making a negative association with smoking.
  2. By showing the very familiar no smoking sign over and over again, the hope is that the repetition of the image, and it's popularity will make it stick out in viewers minds.
  3. The next section shows how subliminal advertising in popular movies might effect the populations oppinions on smoking on average. If subliminal advertising worked the movies would be an easy way to feed the messages to the public.
  4. The message featuring Jessica Simpson shows how celebrities use their popularity to speak out against smoking, thus people who admire Jessica Simpson or perhaps just like to look at her, would be less inclined to smoke since she doesn't.
  5. The last post featuring Johnny Carson and Peter Jennings shows that many famous people have died from smoking, this shows people that no one is invulnerable to cigarettes despite money, fame, and power. If people see that smoking killed these men then they may, themselves be inclined to quit.

It doesnt matter who you are, smoking will kill you

Peter Jennings, Famous news anchor died from lung cancer
Before he passed away he warned people, "DON'T SMOKE CIGARETTES!"

Late Night Host, Johnny Carson Died of Emphysema
"I wish I never started smoking."

What if there were subliminal messages to quit smoking....

Imagine if throughout all of your favorite movie, suggestive messages to quit smoking flashed thousands of times without you even noticing. One minute you're watching this...

Then during the amazing newsteam war you barely catch a glimpse of ...
Soon the advertising would take over and mass amounts of people would be quitting smoking without knowing how they got the strength!
